Choosing the right vinyl siding color is tricky. There is more to consider than simply which color you like best. You don't want your siding to stand out too much. Take a look at the houses on either side of your home. If they're both earth tones, then you might not want to go with bright white or dark green siding. Also consider the type of home you own. A color scheme of sky blue and cream might look great on a Queen Anne--maybe not so much on a craftsman bungalow.
Here are five popular and versatile siding colors.
Not white--cream. Cream is a buttery siding--white with faint undertones of yellow. A color for almost any setting, it works against a background of pine trees or alongside brick town houses.
A subtle, pale gray siding that works in any environment. In a neighborhood of whites and off whites, linen vinyl siding looks cool and dignified. In a neighborhood of pastels, it appears grownup without being boring.
This striking pastel calls attention to your home. Not for ranch homes or low-slung bungalows, cornflower blue vinyl siding is for taller homes of two or more stories.
Colonial yellow siding is bright and sunny and looks great in a yard with flowerbeds and plenty of trees.
A muted gray green, sage vinyl siding appears playful next to a white or a cream house. It looks great on larger houses. In neighborhoods with a lot of green trees, however, sage vinyl siding can get lost.
Take your time. Hopefully, your vinyl siding will last as long as you own your home. When the time comes to sell your home, you'll be glad you didn't rush the decision.
